Program Overview
Drug Free Vigo County promotes a healthier, safer community by preventing substance misuse and fostering sustainable change. Through education, collaboration, and youth leadership, we work to reduce alcohol and drug use while empowering local organizations to create lasting impact.
What We Do
Since 1989, Drug Free Vigo County has served as Vigo County’s Local Coordinating Council (LCC) for substance use prevention and coordination. In 2018, the coalition rebranded to reflect a renewed mission of building a healthier, drug-free community through collaboration, education, and data-informed action.
In 2025, Drug Free Vigo County advanced its mission with the support of federal grants, including the Drug Free Communities (DFC) and Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) grants. These funds strengthened prevention efforts, expanded access to treatment, and supported law enforcement initiatives.
Local funding is distributed each year in three priority areas:
- Prevention – Helping youth and adults make informed, healthy choices.
- Treatment – Supporting recovery access and community resilience.
- Law Enforcement – Ensuring safer neighborhoods through collaboration.
The coalition also leads the iLEAD (Inspiring Leadership, Education, and Development) youth coalition, which partners with VOICE, Indiana’s youth-led tobacco prevention movement. Through the campaign “iLEAD Because My VOICE Matters”, youth develop leadership and advocacy skills while promoting a vape- and tobacco-free lifestyle.
