Who it serves (Who):

The center serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and supports early learning students and professionals, staff, and community families. It also welcomes families eligible for the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) voucher program.

What the center offers (What):

CASY’s Early Learning Center provides a comprehensive child care and early education experience centered on high-quality learning, whole-child development, and family support. The center is designed to nurture creativity, confidence, and curiosity through developmentally appropriate experiences.

Where it fits in the community (Where):

The center is strategically located within a 5–20 minute drive of Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, downtown Terre Haute, Brazil, and major employment centers. This supports workforce participation and regional economic growth across Vigo and Clay counties.

When and how it operates (When / How):

Open Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

One fully staffed one weekend per month to support military families.

Summer camps coming in 2027.

Why it matters (Why):

CASY has been serving children and families from cradle to college since 1971, and this center continues that commitment by strengthening kindergarten readiness, school success, and family stability. The initiative also aligns with the Grow Up in West Central Indiana regional child care strategic plan, which emphasizes the need for more accessible, high-quality child care to support families and the local economy.

Teaching philosophy (What families can expect):

CASY believes children learn best through active exploration, meaningful play, and teacher-guided experiences in a safe, thoughtfully designed environment. The curriculum follows the Indiana Department of Education’s Foundations for Early Learning focusing on eight core and competencies: english/language arts, mathematics, social-emotional skills, approaches to play and learning, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical health and growth. Teachers use Creative Curriculum, a research-based framework grounded in child development and learning theory. Family engagement is central, with opportunities such as conferences, Parent/Teacher Activity meetings, and seasonal family events.

Staff quality and safety (Why families can trust it):

The teaching team includes professionals in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and related fields. Staff complete national criminal history checks, ongoing training, CPR and First Aid certification, Safe Sleep training, and child abuse/neglect prevention training.

This center is more than child care—it is part of a regional solution to a child care shortage that affects families, employers, and economic growth. By expanding access to high-quality care, CASY helps reduce barriers for working parents and supports stronger communities across the region.
