CACFP Training Requirements

The Indiana State Department of Education training requirements for all licensed Family Day Care Home providers enrolled in the CACFP is six (6) hours of CACFP related training per fiscal year (Oct 1 – Sept 30). Throughout the Fiscal Year, trainings with CACFP related hours will be offered by CASY through various venues. The training schedule and information will be posted in the CASY monthly newsletter indicated by an apple. Listed below are the various venues CASY CACFP related training hours can be received.

 

Minute Menu Webkids: Switch to online claiming through Minute Menu HX and receive 2 hours for this phone training. For more information regarding this training contact the CASY Data Manager, Amy Bush.
 

Videos and Questionnaires & Booklets and Questionnaires: The CASY Food Program office has a library of food program related training videos and booklets available for at home training. Each video and booklet has a questionnaire that is to be completed and turned into the CASY Food Program office for training credit. Call or stop by the CASY Food Program to check out these videos and booklets for a two week time period.

   

Online Trainings: There are trainings available through the CASY Food Program web page for training hours. It is the provider’s responsibility to mail or e-mail the completed training results or questionnaire to the CASY Food Program office for training credit.

Better Baby Care: Better Baby Care is an Infant/Toddler curriculum offered through the CASY Resource and Referral department. All providers who complete this program will receive their six CASY CACFP related training hours. This 30 hour curriculum includes many hours on Food Program related topics such as infant feeding, safe bottle preparation, and choking hazards for toddlers, hand washing, etc. For more information regarding this program contact the CASY Infant/Toddler Specialist, Jill Erickson.

Other: Any workshops, conferences, and trainings offered by professional individuals and organizations that cover food program related topics such as: Menu Planning, Food Purchasing, Food Safety and Sanitation, Food Preparation, Nutrition Education, Serving Children with Special Needs, Childhood Obesity, Children and Nutrition can be used as CACFP training hours. For example a nutrition education workshop offered at the annual IAEYC Conference could be used for training credit with appropriate documentation. Always check with the Food Program Manager prior to attending for approval of training hours and an explanation of needed documentation.

 

It is the responsibility of each CASY CACFP enrolled family day care provider to receive 6 hours of CACFP related training. If this 6 hour requirement is not fulfilled by the end of the fiscal year (September 30), a provider will be determined to be Seriously Deficient on October 1. Failure to comply with the terms of being Seriously Deficient due to lack of training hours could result in provider termination and placement on the Nationally Disqualified List for seven years.
